THE SECRET OF POWER WITH GOD

POWER IS NOT OPTIONAL FOR THE BELIEVER. IT IS A NECESSITY.
The Christian life was never designed to be lived in human strength alone.
There are battles you cannot overcome by determination, challenges that require more than intelligence, and divine assignments that cannot be fulfilled by natural ability alone.
Ephesians 6:12 reminds us that our struggle is not against flesh and blood. There are spiritual realities that demand spiritual strength.
When Jacob encountered God, the testimony concerning him was remarkable:
“For as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.” — Genesis 32:28
If you will continually prevail in life, fulfil God's purpose, and stand against the schemes of the enemy, you must be strengthened by the power of God.
But how does a believer cultivate a life of spiritual power?
1. DEVELOP A DEEP AND CONSISTENT HUNGER FOR GOD'S PRESENCE.
One of the greatest secrets of spiritual power is a genuine desire to know God and remain in fellowship with Him.
There is a difference between seeking God for what He can do and seeking Him because you genuinely desire Him.
David expressed this hunger in Psalm 63:1–2:
“My soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land... To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary.”
Notice the connection between his hunger for God's presence and his desire to see God's power.
In Acts 10:38, Scripture tells us that Jesus was anointed with the Holy Spirit and with power, and then adds something significant: “for God was with him.”
The power demonstrated in the ministry of Jesus was inseparable from the presence and activity of God.
Even Jesus consistently withdrew to pray and spend time with the Father (Luke 5:16).
You cannot consistently neglect fellowship with God and expect to remain spiritually vibrant.
Spiritual hunger must go beyond attending meetings, enjoying worship sessions, or seeking occasional encounters.
It must become a daily pursuit.
Make room for God in your schedule. Spend time in His Word. Build a personal life of worship and prayer.
Psalm 105:4 says, “Seek the LORD, and his strength: seek his face evermore.”
Don't only seek God's hand. Learn to seek His face.
2. BUILD AND MAINTAIN A STRONG ALTAR OF PRAYER.
Prayer is not merely something we do when we have problems. It is one of the primary ways we maintain fellowship with God and receive spiritual strength.
A believer who neglects prayer will struggle to remain spiritually alert and strong.
James 5:16 declares:
“The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”
The following verse reminds us that Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, yet his prayers produced extraordinary results.
This means an effective prayer life is not reserved for a special category of believers.
In Acts 4:31, after the believers prayed, they were filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the Word of God with boldness.
Prayer did not merely change their circumstances. It strengthened them to carry out God's assignment.
Jesus also taught that men ought always to pray and not lose heart (Luke 18:1).
And Jude 1:20 speaks of building ourselves up in our most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost.
You cannot build a strong spiritual life on occasional prayer.
Develop consistency. Learn to pray when things are going well, not only when trouble comes.
Pray until your heart is strengthened, your spiritual sensitivity is sharpened, and your confidence in God is renewed.
A life of consistent prayer positions you to walk in consistent spiritual strength.
3. CULTIVATE A LIFESTYLE OF PRAISE, WORSHIP, AND REJOICING.
Praise is more than singing songs during a church service.
It is a response of faith, gratitude, and reverence towards God, regardless of what is happening around you.
In Acts 16:25–26, Paul and Silas were imprisoned, yet at midnight they prayed and sang praises to God.
Their circumstances gave them reasons to complain, but they chose to worship.
As they prayed and praised God, an earthquake shook the prison, the doors opened, and their chains were loosened.
Their experience reminds us that difficult circumstances do not have to silence our worship.
Habakkuk 3:17–19 describes a season in which everything appears to be failing, yet the prophet declares:
“Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.”
He goes on to say, “The LORD God is my strength.”
There is strength in maintaining a heart that rejoices in God.
Nehemiah 8:10 also declares that the joy of the Lord is our strength.
A heart continually occupied with complaining, bitterness, and murmuring will struggle to maintain a healthy spiritual atmosphere.
This does not mean denying difficulties or pretending everything is fine.
It means choosing to acknowledge God's faithfulness even in the middle of those difficulties.
Make thanksgiving your habit. Let worship become part of your everyday life.
Don't allow your circumstances to determine whether God is worthy of your praise.
4. GIVE YOURSELF TO THE ASSIGNMENT OF SOUL WINNING.
God does not empower us merely to make us feel powerful.
His power is given for a purpose, and one of the clearest purposes revealed in Scripture is to make us effective witnesses of Jesus Christ.
Acts 1:8 says:
“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me...”
Notice that the promise of power was directly connected to the assignment of witnessing.
In Luke 10:1–19, Jesus sent out His disciples to preach and minister.
When they returned, they rejoiced that even demons were subject to them through His name.
They experienced the authority of Christ as they carried out the assignment He had given them.
Mark 16:20 also tells us that the disciples went out preaching everywhere, with the Lord working with them and confirming His Word.
God's assignment comes with God's provision.
There are expressions of divine empowerment that become evident as believers obediently engage in the work God has entrusted to them.
You cannot be completely indifferent to the advancement of God's Kingdom and expect to experience the fullness of what He has equipped you to do.
Share the Gospel. Pray for people. Reach out to those who do not know Christ. Make yourself available for Kingdom service.
Don't wait until you feel extraordinarily powerful before you begin obeying God.
Start with the assignment He has given you, trusting Him for the strength and grace required.
The power of God is not given for personal display. It is given to accomplish His purposes.
5. GIVE YOURSELF TO THE LIGHT AND REVELATION OF GOD'S WORD.
You cannot grow in spiritual authority while remaining ignorant of God's Word.
The Word of God reveals His nature, His will, His promises, and the authority we have in Christ.
Luke 4:32 says concerning Jesus:
“And they were astonished at his doctrine: for his word was with power.”
In verse 36, the people were amazed that with authority and power He commanded unclean spirits, and they obeyed Him.
Jesus did not merely speak impressive words. His words carried divine authority.
Ecclesiastes 8:4 declares:
“Where the word of a king is, there is power.”
Hebrews 4:12 describes the Word of God as living and powerful.
And in Acts 19:20, Scripture records that the Word of God grew mightily and prevailed.
A believer who continually gives attention to Scripture is being equipped to understand God's will, recognise deception, stand firm in faith, and respond to life's challenges with truth.
When Jesus was tempted by the devil in Matthew 4:1–11, His responses were rooted in what was written.
He demonstrated the importance of knowing and standing upon God's Word.
Don't treat Bible reading and study as an occasional religious activity.
Read the Word consistently. Meditate on it. Study it until you understand what God is saying. Allow it to renew your thinking and shape your decisions.
Colossians 3:16 says, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom.”
The more deeply God's Word shapes your heart, the more firmly you can stand in the truth and authority of Christ.
YOU WERE NOT CALLED TO LIVE A POWERLESS CHRISTIAN LIFE.
Be passionate about His presence.
Be consistent in prayer.
Maintain a heart of worship and thanksgiving.
Give yourself to the work of soul winning.
Become deeply rooted in His Word.
“For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.” — Philippians 2:13
SEEK GOD. WALK WITH HIM. FULFIL HIS PURPOSE.
